Sanzo is quite stoic, tempermental, and likes to lead. But he was not always called Sanzo. He used to go by Kouryuu, the River Drifter, until his master, Komiyo Sanzo, appointed him Sanzo. Shortly after he was killed and little Sanzo could do nothing to save him. Ten years later, he was appionted by the Merciful Goddess to travel west to stop the resurrection of the demon king. Sanzo is joined by Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai, on this journey. Sanzo wolud be dead so many times if it weren't for his companions. Hakkai heals his wounds, Goku fights to save him, and Gojyo just kind of helps Goku fight.
